Little Over Due

Sorry it has been so long since I was last on here. To be honest I have been a little lazy.  I think that is mostly due to getting off of work so late everyday that I just want to crash when I do get home.  This last weekend was an agony of debate for me and my husband.  I applied for a different job, to be totally honest I was not expecting to get offered the job when I applied and interviewed.  So imagine my surprise to be offered the job.  The pay was were I wanted but the hours worried me.  While I wouldn't mind going down to part time hours I need more then 20 hours and with the possibility of some weeks being less and other weeks being more it just caused us both to worry.   While I could get away with not working that would be a set back for us and our plans.  After getting the job offer we sat down and updated our 5 year plan together, one with where we would be if I took the job and one where we will be if I stay where I am until at least next year.  We also have another one for where we will be if I have to quit my job in the fall when I start back into college full time. Which I will not lie the idea of having a part time job at that point does look really good.  In the end I decided to decline the job offer for a job that I would love and stay at my current job.  Which really bummed me out since I have really come to hate my job and can't stand the panic attacks that it causes me to have most mornings before I go into the office.  Yet the money is okay and it will allow us to pay off two cars before may.  So as you can guess my fall will be crazy busy with working full-time, college and working on my hand knitting masters.  I am hoping to have been able to start on the third and final level at this point.  My goal is to be completely done with the master knitter program by early 2017.
So here is my up-date on the master knitter work that I have finished:
  • finished the first book and have written a ruff draft in my note book that still needs to be typed
  • finished knitting swatches 6, 7 and 8 and still have to seam swatch 7
  • started to edit my history of knitting paper
  • made information sheets for swatches 6, 7, and 8.
  • started the information sheet for swatch 9
  • researched and answered questions 1&2
  • started reading second review book.
This week I have several more things that I am hoping to finish, and over the weekend I am hoping to power through 5 things off of my list.  And I have to find the time to make some more madeleine for my husband and a coworker.  I will have to plan on getting up extra early both days this weekend in order to finish everything that needs to be done including cleaning the house.  I will try to write again on sunday to give you a good update of everything that has been accomplished.

Another week has gone by.

Well my dear reader remember that list of things that I needed to get done in order to finish my master level 2? I have only done part of one of those things. I have finished reading one of my book review books and have the draft of the review done. I haven't even done the review for goodreads yet. This week I will get both of those done. I have completed about half of my argyle sock. Today I am wanting to finish one sock and start the other. I am in so much pain right now that I don't know how much I will get done this week. The idea of sitting at the computer is just too much right now. You see my wonderful reader I am writing this on my phone so that I can lounge on the couch and work on my socks. Talking about socks I feel the need and want to get to knitting, maybe it will take my mind off of the pain. Goodbye for now. Maybe soon I will have a favorable progress report.

Long Day of Research

Today was spent doing research, knitting swatches, doing more research, knitting more swatches and occasional ravelry breaks.  I have been hanging out on the Harry Potter House threads today, well mostly on the NQFY/SOS Lounge thread.  Since I am not officially playing in the house cup this term I am just bumming around "the house." I missed sign ups this term which I was not planning on doing but think that it has worked out for the best since it is making it where I have no excuse to not finish my MHKL2 (Master Hand Knitter Level 2) work.  I plan to have it ready for send off by March 1st.  Then it should take about 8 weeks to get it back (maybe a little longer) So by the first of June I should be able to start revisions.  Depending on how much I need to fix I may sit out the next term too.
So to finish my MHKL2 I need to:
  1. Knit Swatch 9
  2. Knit Swatch 10 (Which includes writing a pattern)
  3. Knit Swatch 11 (Which also includes writing a pattern, different from swatch 10)
  4. Knit Swatch12 (Once more we must write a pattern, it can not be the same as was used in level 1(though how they would know if it was or not is beyond me if you get totally different people))
  5. Knit Swatch 13 (Which will also need a pattern and research on cable flaring)
  6. Knit Swatch 14
  7. Knit Swatch 15
  8. Knit Swatch 16
  9. Knit Swatch 17
  10. Knit Swatch 18
  11. Make all swatch informational sheets that include no less then two references.  (Which I will hopefully be doing as I knit most of my swatches.  To be honest I like to make so many swatches then make their sheets and place into the binder after photographing it to post on ravelry)
  12. Fill out Gauge Worksheets
  13. Answer Questions 1-16 with at least to references for each answer given
  14. Do fair isle project (pattern given in instructional packet)
  15. Make argyle sock but do not seam up the leg (find your own pattern)
  16. Make vest (once more find your own patter or on this one you can make your own pattern)
  17. Finish Report edits
  18. Book Review 1
  19. Book Review 2
  20. Book Review 3
  21. Finish Swatch 7 (almost forgot that I had not seam that swatch up yet)
So 21 one things left to do 2 of them bigger projects not to bad if I can stick to my schedule, which I am already about four things behind so that is almost a day worth of work that I am behind.  It is not looking good for my ideal finish time.  But most of the reason I am behind is because I keep letting my Husband drag me out and about.  Today he was at work which has allowed me to get a lot of work done.  Tomorrow I have to work which limits what I can get done.  If I can get almost back on schedule tonight then that means I may be only half a day behind that I can make up on the weekend when I am home all day.  Next weekend may not be great for catch up but the following weekend should work out great for getting everything done that I need to get finished.  I do plan on going to Park Avenue Yarns on Saturday while my husband is doing work stuff so I will work on my argyle socks while I am there.  Which thinking about that if I finish my argyle socks while I am out knitting then it could actually put me ahead of schedule if I plan it all out right.  This may need farther thought.
Today I have been researching short rows and have looked at two new techniques German and Japanese Short Rows. Along with researching about Three Needle Bind-Off (a new technique to me) and Kitchener on garter stitch.  I have yet to knit both swatches that use these techniques so am not going to write about them much today but I will say for the Japanese Short Row that I have knit I really like the way it looks.
Also on a side note I will try not to write too often on my phone I looked at the last post I did and it was horrible, so sorry to my dear readers but when I am tired and posting off my phone I can not be trusted to make sense.
I am currently reading through one of the books for my review and will post a link to my goodreads review when I am finished with the book.  I plan on making a larger more detailed review on goodreads.  Unfortunately for the MHKL2 they require that the reviews only be about half a page, which I don't think gives the books any justice.  Also once I get my report back with a passing mark I will post it here for you to ready if you would like.  It is on the history of knitting. A very fun subject to research and also very frustrating to find real facts.
Well I am off to my corner of the interweb, which I think I should think of as the stacks since I am going to do more research.  Not happy with the amount and type of references that I have for the German Short Rows off to find more.
